Length and height
Most fences are priced by the linear foot. Going from 6 to 8 feet tall adds material and heavier posts.
Material and style
Cedar and vinyl are the most budget-friendly. Composite, steel and custom iron cost more but last longer or make a bigger statement.
Gates
Every walk or drive gate adds hardware and labor. Automatic gates add the opener, wiring or solar, and safety sensors.
Terrain and soil
Slopes need stepped or racked panels, and Utah's rocky benches can mean extra work to dig post holes.
Removal and prep
Tearing out an old fence usually adds $3–$8 per linear foot, plus any clearing along the fence line.
Access and permits

Every Utah city sets its own fence rules. Many limit front-yard fences to about 3 to 4 feet and back-yard fences to 6 feet, and corner lots often have extra limits near intersections so drivers can see.
