Custom Metal Name Gates: Ideas & How They're Made

A gate with your family name, ranch brand or a laser-cut elk turns an entrance into something people remember. Here's how custom metal gates come together, from idea to install.

Ideas

Popular designs.

Almost anything you can draw can be cut from steel or aluminum. These are the designs Utah homeowners and ranch owners ask for most.

  • Family name or addressYour last name, address or established year across the gate or on an arch above the drive.
  • Monograms and initialsA single initial or monogram centered in the gate, like a signature.
  • Ranch brandsYour brand cut into the gate, arch or a matching sign at the road.
  • Elk, deer and wildlifeLaser-cut elk, deer, moose, bear, eagles and horses, the most requested designs in Utah.
  • Mountain scenesThe Wasatch skyline, pine trees and sunsets that make the gate a piece of art.
  • Matching accentsAddress markers, mailbox panels and fence inserts that tie the whole entrance together.

Materials

Steel or aluminum?

Steel is heavier and stronger, which makes it the choice for large drive gates, ranch arches and gates that take a lot of use. Aluminum is lighter and won't rust, which makes it a good fit for smaller gates, panels and signs.

Both are finished with durable powder coat. Black and bronze are most popular, and rust-look, copper, gray and custom colors are available to match your home.

The process

From idea to installed.

Send us a name, a sketch, a photo or just an idea. We create a design sized to your gate or arch, adjust it until you love it, then cut it with precision, weld it, powder coat it and install it. Custom panels can go into swing, slide and LazyGate vertical lift gates, and any gate can be automated.

Pricing

What affects the price.

Custom metal is priced per project, based on the size of the gate or panel, how detailed the design is, steel or aluminum, the finish, and whether it's going on a new gate or an existing one. A simple name panel costs far less than a full drive gate with a detailed wildlife scene. We'll give you options at different price points in your free estimate.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Don't see your question? Send it with your estimate request and we'll get back to you.

Can you put my family name on a gate?

Yes. We can cut your family name, address, initials or ranch brand into a gate panel, an arch over the driveway, or a matching sign.

Can you laser-cut an elk or mountain scene into my gate?

Yes. Elk, deer, bears, eagles, horses, mountains and trees are some of our most popular designs. Send us a photo or sketch and we'll create a design sized to your gate.

Can a custom metal gate be automatic?

Yes. Custom panels can be built into swing, slide and LazyGate vertical lift gates and automated with keypads, remotes and app control.

How long does a custom metal gate take?

Design usually takes a few days to a couple of weeks depending on revisions, and fabrication and powder coating take a few weeks. Installation itself usually takes a day or two.

Will a custom metal gate rust?

Aluminum doesn't rust, and steel is protected with a durable powder-coat finish. Touching up any chips keeps a steel gate looking new for years.
