How we built it.
Shadowbox fences alternate boards on each side of the rails. From straight on, you can't see through, but wind can pass between the boards, which matters in Utah's canyon winds.
Because both sides look finished, a shadowbox fence is a good-neighbor choice for shared property lines and side yards that both homes can see.
It uses a bit more lumber than a standard privacy fence, but the result is sturdier, more attractive and easier on the posts in high wind.
